Myrth'raheal
A terrible plague had befallen the first tribes of elves that wandered the Earth. It left the population on a spiral of death, such a harsh spiral that even Cy'laf, Goddess of Death, was having problems keeping up with the souls being ushered into the afterlife.
As the plague ravished even those in the womb, Cy'laf decided she would use those, ravished by plague, nearly dead, to help her in the collection of souls. To aid her in helping them cross over. Picking out five, not yet born infants, she would imbue them with some of her power. Upon their birth it was first believed that these children had died, their mothers already ravaged by the plague and dying. However, when they gave out cries of life, the children were taken in and cared for. The people would find that the infants... didn't get sick. They appeared to be immune to all illnesses. What was stranger was the fact that any around them would start to feel drained of energy. This made it difficult for the children to truly form any lasting friendships as very few wanted to be around them.
Once the children came of age, the plague was reaching its peak, and the numbers of those that were dying were by the millions. It was only then that Cy'laf appeared to them, and explained to them what it was she wanted them to do, that they were her children, and as such harbingers of death. Donning them with the name Myrth'raheal, meaning Honor of the Gods.
It didn't take long for the children to become accustomed to their roles. Learning how to become incorporeal, and invisible to those around them, as they found someone who was in the process of offering their final breaths. No doubt appearing as angels to take them to the next plane of life.
To the living, Myrth'raheal appear to be terrifying in their own right. Their skin is naturally pale, and they've fangs that protrude past their bottom lips, making them look very much like vampires. While there is speculation among the few that know of the Myrth'raheal's existence that these fangs were used to secure blood as a means of food, it is not blood that the Myrth'raheal feed off of, it's the energy or life force of those around them. Typically feeding off of what little is left of the souls they are about to help cross over.
The one unusual trait of the Myrth'raheal, is the fact that they took on Death's alignment. All Myrth'raheal start off as Neutral. As they hold no sway or prejudice of those that are dying. For death is death no matter if you are good or evil. What you did during your lifetime is not for them to judge.
